A couple of days back, Facebook had trending news with pictorial excerpts of gallant sons and daughters of Oduduwa (Yoruba), conspicuously holding protests for Oduduwa Republic in far away Europe. That singular action gave me some measure of confidence and push, to piece this article together in appreciation for their synergy, boldness and resoluteness. Courage is not the absence of fear. Courageous people do entertain some fears as humans but they are proficient in dealing proactively, with it victoriously. Courage is a highly prized virtue and many famous and respected people globally, have either spoken or written about it over the years.
Just like what late Dr. Nelson Mandela said: "I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear". Needless to say therefore that he has said it. Courageous people rise up against things that threaten them, their items or concerns.
They take action in the midst of systems that are in keeping with their values. Sometimes, such an action does not essentially speak loud but remains silent and thoughtful. Taking the elementary step towards a particular project quite importantly beneficial to us, tends to be challenging and tortuous. But no matter whatever the factor, whether in starting up a business, quitting an employment, career-change, writing a journal or even simply re-evaluating an opinion, there are honestly definitive decision/daring backup actions to take.
Presently, the Nigerian state without any disputation, never ever existed in the real sense of it. It only existed on paper. It is a mirage ever to be associated with by humanity and very essentially, the truth that must be realized is that it has remained a destiny killer. This is why Professor Chinua Achebe of blessed memory, stated that: "Nigeria is not a great country. It is one in all the foremost disorderly nations within the world. It is one in all the foremost corrupt, insensitive, inefficient places below the sun. It is one in all the foremost expensive countries and one in all those who offer least worth for cash. It is dirty, callous, noisy, ostentatious, dishonest and vulgar. In short, it is among the foremost unpleasant places on earth".
He continued: "It is a measure of our self-delusion that we can talk about developing tourism in Nigeria. Only a masochist with an exuberant taste for self-violence will pick Nigeria for a holiday; only a character of Tutuola seeking to know punishment and poverty at first hand. No, Nigeria may be a paradise for adventurers and pirates but not tourists", Professor Achebe concluded. In his bemusement as per what Nigeria meant, Femi Fani-Kayode in 2014 had asked: "Are we actually a naion of square measure that we intend to or quite a melting pot of squabbling and row ethnic and cultural incompatibles?
Nigeria has extremely dealth with all of us, it had been one in all the pricey mistakes of Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe that placed us into these massive messes we intend to face nowadays. Chief Obafemi Awolowo saw this on the onset and protested against it. Once he presented Nigeria as "Not being a nation but a mere geographical expression". To a definite extent, we have to learn to be 'unapologetic' concerning our true self and what we tend to believe. Will what people think prevent you from realistically, following what you want to do?
Clouds and rains will come your way and you truly have to anticipate them and be ready to go through them experientially. Pilots trust the craft as a result of their realization that it will bear turbulences. They additionally trust their own data and skills of flying the craft. You must equally be ever prepared for the worst and you have to learn from the clout and resilience of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and her leadership.
Against the rains of bullets, victimization, incarceration, denials and deaths, they have remained strongly unruffled. Their political leaders/elders pleasurably gallivant Aso Rock, shamelessly gathering the spoils at the misery of their children. They have never exhibited any form of interest in meaningfully engaging the powers that be. We have to consistently synergize with an unbroken spirit to resist subjugation and total extermination in whatever shape or form they are packaged. Theodore Roosevelt had stated: "It is just through the labor and painful effort by grim energy and resolute spirit that we tend to progress to higher things".
We must remain undeterred!
