 Biafra: Kanu's International Lawyer To Meet With UN Special Rapporteur

The International legal counsel to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB), Bruce Fein is set for an exceptional meeting with the United Nations(UN) Rapporteur On Torture. According to Barrister Fein, the meeting is scheduled for next month, August.

The United Nations(UN) Working Group is a subsidiary body of the UN. The UN Human Rights Council(UNHRC), setup in June 2011, a working group on the issues of human rights, transnational corporations, and other business enterprises. This is simply referred to as the United Nations Working Group on business and human rights. It comprises five(5) independent experts. They investigate cases of arbitrary arrest and detention. Arbitrary arrest and detention is the imprisonment or detainment of an individual by a State, without respect for due process. 

A Special Rapporteur is an independent expert assigned an area of interest, such as the violation of a specific human right by a country. Therefore, the Special Rapporteur, among other things, make possible a global discussion and action. Dr. Alice Jill Edwards is the current UN Special Rapporteur On Torture.

According to Bruce Fein in his verified Twitter handle, he tweeted: “I plan to meet next month with the U.N. Special Rapporteur on Torture Dr. Alice Joyce Edwards to discuss the U.N. Working Group’s referral of MNK’s inhumane solitary indefinite confinement. The work goes on, the cause endures, the hope never flags, and the dream is near.” ~@BruceFeinEsq

Recall that some days ago, Bruce Fein, on his Twitter handle, announced the reception of opinion by the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention. In the tweet, he said: “I just received opinion by Working Group on Arbitrary Detention of UN Human Rights Council demanding immediate unconditional release of MNK and reparations for serial violations of internationally guaranteed rights by Nigerian and Kenyan governments. Stand by for full opinion.” ~@BruceFeinEsq

In later published full report, the United Nations Working Group issued a scathing condemnation of Nigeria and Kenya governments. The United Nations Working Group, among other things, declared IPOB a nonviolent freedom movement; asked Nigeria to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu Immediately and unconditionally with an enforceable compensation.

However, given the notoriety of the Fulanii controlled Nigeria government, not a few believe that the Nigerian government will not obey United Nations unless additional motivating measures are taken. The implication of the scheduled visit, therefore, is that the legal team is not leaving any stone of diplomatic victory unturned.
