THE MENACE OF FULANI KILLER HERDSMEN IN ABIA STATE AND THEIR SUPPORT BY SOLDIERS OF 144 BATTALION
Report by IPOB Intelligence Unit
Ogwe autonomous community in Ukwa West local government area of Abia State, comprises of ten villages. Intelligence reports gathered have it that these ten villages have been immensely suffering the destructive activities of Fulani killer herdsmen. These weaponised marauders have been transversing farmlands within the neighborhood and wantonly destroying farm crops with reckless abandon. They randomly sleep in whatever places of choice within the forest areas of the community.
Further information has it that these marauders have somewhat permanent base at Orgwu in Ogwe community, with a large expanse of land roundly fenced with an iron gate. According to the indigenes of Ogwe and Orgwu, that particular portion of land was originally meant for the construction of a Geometric company but has now been taken over with impunity by these Fulani Islamic herders. From reliable intelligence, this Geometric site had a Biafran security personnel who kept watch over the property against these foreign intruders in Ogwe community. However, things degenerated, prompting the security guard to employ the devices of welders for burglary enforcement. These Fulanis in their persistent evil enterprise, forced their ways through, pulling down the iron gate that served as barricade against any encroachment, and settled therein.
On his return to the site, the security personnel surprisingly noticed that all his efforts to properly secure the property have been bastardized. And in his wisdom to save his dear life from the threats of these Islamic terrorists, had to abandon the site as the necessary option. The indigenes of the community further confided in the intelligence officers of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), that these Fulani herders even parambulate during night hours across various villages with their cattle. They maintained that their vigilantes spotted these people entering one of the villages with their cows around 2:00am. Resisting security check, the Fulanis pulled out their guns, intentionally scaring off the vigilantes from their route. Consequently, villagers within this area held meetings to have a common front of opposition against this wave of provocation. This move was however truncated based on the fact that these Fulani killer herdsmen, enjoy full support and defense from the soldiers of 144 battalion of the Nigerian army based at Asa High School in Aba, who actually own the cattle. The herdsmen only act as rearers. The community indigenes also attested to the fact that these cows that are moved from place to place, wantonly destroying farmlands and crops, really belong to these soldiers in the 144 battalion.
There also exists quite a number of military checkpoints littering the roads within Ukwa West local government area which the Fulani infested Nigerian military uses to protect their cows and employed herders. These checkpoints serve as encagement devices constituted against the indigenous people of the community and anyone spotted as having any misunderstanding with the cattle rearers, is helplessly at the mercy of the soldiers who have become criminal overlords. Our intelligence officers also gathered that these soldiers adequately arm the herdsmen with sophiscated weapons. The Fulani politicians as reliably informed, often visit the villages within the community with police/army escorts, with the intent of buying lands under the guise of building companies that will gainfully employ the youths amongst others. These plots of land so pretentiously acquired, are thereafter handed over to their herdsmen brethren as their occupation bases.
Owazza community is yet another area in Ukwa West local government area of Abia State where the Fulani disturbances hold sway. They blatantly carry out destruction of farmlands and crops as untouchables even within their host communities. They enjoy all round the clock backing of their military brethren whose cows they rear.
A discovery of a container located inside the premises of Geometric company at Orgwu village, with virtually no suspicion of dangerous contents, was made. It was suspected that the contents will not be anything less than arms and ammunitions. The IPOB Intelligence Unit is closely monitoring situations around the Fulanis in these communities in Abia State since the Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu had bluntly reneged on his responsibility of providing adequate security to Abians.
