The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) ably led by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu on Saturday 21st July 2018, paid a condolence visit to Femi Fani-Kayode on the death and burial of his mother-inlaw, late madam Leticia Chinyere Chikwendu, at Umuire in Umuahia North local government area of Abia State. In an interview with the Family Writers Press, Dr. Femi Fani-Kayode expressed deep appreciation for the turn out of thousands of IPOB family members from different clans and provinces within Biafraland to condole with him and his family. He thereby requested that he be taken to the destroyed residence of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the courageous and highly intelligent leader of the IPOB, by the Nigerian army which was murderously invaded on the 24th of September 2017, with a number of Biafrans killed. This he said was to enable him get on- the-spot account of atrocities committed.
Dr. Femi Fani-Kayode seeing the extent of damages carried out in the residence of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu at Afara-ukwu, Ibeku in Umuahia, Abia State, as he got to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in the company of IPOB family members, wept for such acts of inhumanity meted out against an individual who never killed, even in the 21st century. He expressed bitterness at the wanton destruction of damaged vehicles riddled with bullets amongst other properties within the compound. The highly enlightened freedom fighter and lawyer further gave the narrative of the massacre of Biafrans by the Nigerian military during the Nigeria/Biafra war between 1967 and 1970, which recorded the death of over 3.5 million Biafrans including men, women and children. 300 Biafran combatants of Igbo extraction, serving then in Northern Nigeria, were secretly executed by the Nigerian forces. It was the raping and killing of Biafran men, mothers and young women which infuriated late General Odimegwu Ojukwu to wage a war of defense for the Biafra nation.
Analysing the present precarious situation in Nigeria, Dr. Femi Fani-Kayode emphasized that the only option, is through the instrumentality of a round table dialogue between the Nigerian government and the IPOB that will bring remedy. President Muhammadu Buhari has to engage the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in a meaningful and peaceful dialogue now or there will be absolutely nothing like election come 2019, most essentially because IPOB remains the heartbeat and voice of the Eastern region.
He called on the family members of the IPOB worldwide, to remain resolute and undeterred with their "Peaceful Method" in seeking for self-determination which is an inalienable right of the people as enshrined in the laws of the United Nations. Your dreams must surely be realized in the nearest possible future he re-echoed, pointing out that invaluable sacrifices have been made for this cause.
