As early as 7am on the 16th of August, 2017, the eminent Coordinator of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Owerri zone, Mazi Chukwumankpan Abraham called me to pass the information that some IPOB traders in Owerri, Imo State, Biafra land, have been arrested. Mazi Chimankpam Abraham who has always been there for his people, took it upon himself to secure their release. According to him, when these people appeared at the State High Court, the Judge lampooned the Nigerian Police for not registering the case before bringing the innocent citizens who were exercising their right to court. He added that the police went on their knees and pleaded with the judge, that their cells were congested and that she should grant them bail because they did not commit any offence. Thereafter, the Judge transferred the case to the Magistrate Court.
Furthermore, as Mazi Abraham and other concerned Biafrans waited patiently for the arrival of the Magistrate, the State Police Headquarters and the Area command officers began to quarrel among themselves over unregistered cases and unlawful arrest of people who go about their daily businesses. Immediately, the State Police Headquarters exonerated itself from the case and instructed the Area Command that arrested the innocent people to take care of the court bills. Like the Biblical Pontus Pilate, they washed their hands off the case.
Finally, it was joyous day for IPOB Owerri. The people arrested were released on the 18th of August, after meeting their bail conditions. They are now free. This kind of arrest gives an insight on how the Nigerian Police works. Most times, they arrest and detain our people unlawfully in other to extort money from them. Those arrested and granted bail were Ikechukwu Onyedika, Ikechukwu Ogueri, Chukwu Okoro and others. Thanks to Mazi Chukwumankpan Abraham and his colleagues who have always been there for his people at all times. IPOB under the leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu remains resolute and formidable until Biafra is restored.
