Biafrans all over the world will once again show the world our determination to restoring our dignity and lost identity. 30th of May, 2017, is a day designated by IPOB worldwide to remember those that lost their precious life in the cause for Biafra restoration. However, 2017 Biafra heroes remembrance day affords Biafrans in Biafra Land the opportunity to Sit at home and contemplate on the efforts of our fallen heroes and heroines, pray for the repose of their gentle souls and to Pray for Biafra. It has been years now that Biafrans all over the world embarked on this epoch making event of remembering our heroes past. The history of Biafra cannot well be told without the memories of these gallant heroes who paid the ultimate price and made a supreme sacrifice that we may still live today in the land of the living.
The Right Excellent Marcus Mosiah Garvey states that: “A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture, is like a tree without roots”. He went on to say: “History is a landmark by which we are directed into the true course of life”.
With the history of Biafra in mind, it now becomes an obligation for Biafrans both in Biafra Land and in diaspora to take cognisance of all the contributions of our fallen heroes who fought relentlessly so as not to be exterminated. It will be a sacrilege on the side of Biafrans that are still alive not to respect and honour our dead. Yes, they did not die for their selfish gain, but for the collective emancipation of the people of Biafra of which Nigeria/ British combined forces levied a genocidal war geared towards the total annihilation and removal from the earth surface of Biafrans. It is on record that Biafra was declared on 30th May, 1967 as a result of the injustices being metted on them across the length and breadth of the Nigerian state especially in the Northern part of Nigeria.
Many do ask this question “who are the Biafra heroes"?
Heroes and heroines are those brave hearts that showed their ever readiness without waver and did not gave in to threats of being exterminated and placed their lives at the forefront defending motherland. They are people with never say die spirit, abandoned all riches and wealth in a bid the save humanity and as such restore their dignity, honour, and identity. Therefore, Biafra heroes are those that died during the cause for Biafra restoration which includes all those killed by the Nigerian forces before, during and after the war even those that died recently in the hands of the Nigerian murderous security agents. We must remember and honour them!!!
"These are people who choose to hunger a little to remain alive instead of feeding fat to become respectable corpses" as Late Chief Odumegwu Ojukwu said.
They are the ones who helped us get back our lost identity; they gave us hope to redeem our lost identity. They are the benevolent that sacrificed all they have because they loved us more than they loved themselves. However, for the sake of the huge sacrifice they made, we are now under obligation to henceforth, give especial focus on our Heroes Day Celebration every 30th, May of every year until the land of Biafra is restored and beyond.
Meanwhile, IPOB directorate of states met and came to the conclusion that since Biafrans started observing the heroes day, the Nigerian government through her military agents have continued to kill, kidnap and in most cases jail those that embarked on the heroes day rally as usually held in Biafra Land when arrested. IPOB DOS as a result of these unabated impunity resolved that Biafrans in Biafra Land will embark on SIT AT HOME while Biafrans in diaspora will organise rallies and prayer sections depending on the security apparatus of their countries of resident.
We have crossed many rivers and there are still many more mountains to climb on our journey to restoring Biafra. My dearest Biafrans, we must therefore embrace the visions of our heroes and heroines which is manifested in the lives and works of many today, the likes of ONWA GBURUGBURU, OHAMADIKE, The Commander in Chief of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Okwu Kanu.
Let us not surrender to intimidation from Nigeria when the companionship of hope and unity makes the pathway for a brighter future. Let us recapture that courage, determination and resilience of our Heroes and Heroines.
I thereby humbly appeal to all well meaning Biafrans to kindly adhere to the order given by IPOB leadership in respect to our fallen heroes taking into cognisance of all their sufferings and sacrifices that always bring tears down our chicks. Withdraw from all official and unofficial engagements especially in Biafra Land where the order is to SIT AT HOME. Whereas Biafrans in diaspora should adhere strictly to what ever order that were given to them. As we all remember and respect our dead heroes, may we live to see Biafra.
