Muhammadu Buhari is a retired Nigerian Army major general and was Head of State of Nigeria from 31 December 1983 to 27 August 1985, after taking power in a military coup d'état. In December 2014, he emerged as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the March 2015 general elections. Buhari won the election, defeating the incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan. Buhari stated that he takes responsibility for anything over which he presided during his military rule, and that he cannot change the past. He described himself as a "converted democrat". The retired general has already had one attempt at ruling Nigeria, for just under 20 months from 1983 until 1985. He helped oust the democratically elected government in a coup before being deposed in a counter-coup himself. Human-rights groups have accused Buhari's regime of crushing political dissent and installing harsh military values into civilian life. Many feared that Buhari might repeat the same Human Right blunder or even worse when he won the Presidential Elections in 2015.
"In terms of what a Buhari government would be like, all we have is his record during the 1980s, and that's not particularly reassuring," according to J. Peter Pham, director of the Africa Center at The Atlantic Council think tank. Many cite Buhari's record on the economy, discipline and religion, Buhari's economic record was "nothing short of disastrous," according to Pham.
"A lot of journalists and civil society campaigners were arrested and thrown in jail without a trial," Nigerian author and historian Max Siollun told NBC
News. "This was either because they were critical of the government of accused of fomenting dissent among opposition groups."
Some even gave warnings why Buhari shouldn't be voted into office, while others said he appears to have learnt from his mistakes and has projected moderate social democrat views during this presidential bid, declaring that he will diversify the country's economic base away from its dependence on oil, and vowing to create three million jobs for unemployed youths. Others said, his closeness to the military may also facilitate an easier path for dealing with Boko Haram, both at the national and regional levels.
Now let's fast-forward back to 29 May 2015 when Buhari assumed office. A lot has transpired in just one year in office.
"From the scarcity of Fuel to Complete Power failure, From the High-rate of the dollar to the worst economy ever experienced. From freedom of speech and Expression to complete fear and agony. From fair justice to total manipulation of the Judiciary. From petrol sold at N87 to N300 and above. From 1.4bn to service all presidential jets in one year to N6bn in 6months. From N8million on each international trip to an average of N55million on each trip. From 5.8millon jobs in 5yrs to over 2million sacked workers in 8months. From N185 to a $1 to N415 to a $1. From 2weeks to select cabinet to 6months of selecting cabinet (Even with indicted people and no single economist among the 36 names). From the Illegal kidnap of Nnamdi Kanu to the numerous killings of unarmed Biafrans. From the killings of over 4000 unarmed Biafran protesters by the Nigeria Armed Forces to the killings of over 2500 Shia Muslims by the Nigeria Army. From the slaughter of over 1500 defenceless Igbo-Biafrans by Fulani Herdsmen-Terrorists to the killings of over 5000 innocent civilians by Boko-Haram. From Aba, Onitsha, Ph, Enugu, 1000 Massacre by Nigeria . "-President Buhari record since May 2015-May 2016.
This is just 1 year of Buhari's Government. Imagine what the remaining 3years will be like. Buhari With a military background and orientation, and a total lack of a liberal education, he is ill-equipped to preside over a democratic country. The only language he loves and understands is the language of force. He also does not understand the world order. Recall that he once referred to Germany as Western Germany and Chancellor Angela Merkel as President Michelle. A man who understands the fight against corruption as a witch-hunt. He wants to reconstruct the judiciary and expand Kirikiri prison. He will then fill it with his political enemies, as all those he fingered for corruption will automatically be arrested by the Economic and Financial CrimeCommission (EFCC) and jailed. It doesn't matter who he kills or harms, as long as it entails what he wants, he's satisfied. Can Buhari please tell me how long he intends to keep holding Nnamdi Kanu? This man has done nothing wrong, all he did was ask for self-determination for his people but Buhari arrested him and tortured him. Nnamdi Kanu is still been held in kuje prison in Abuja and it’s been a year now since his illegal arrest.
On the 13th of October 2000, Buhari once led his fellow Hausa-fulani Herdsmen to the office of late governor Lam Onaolapo , to confront the state over alleged killings of Fulani cattle rearers in Saki, Oke Ogun Area of the state. But take a look at what's happening now that Buhari is president, these terrorists called Fulani-Herdsmen are now on a rampage, killing and slaughtering everyone in the communities they invade. What's Buhari doing about it? Nothing. In fact he's given the Herdsmen free license to carry out their savage killings. Muhammadu Buhari has intentionally showed “indisposed and helplessness” to put end to the terror caused by these Fulani herdsmen. As a matter of fact, the Fulani Terror Group is now a militia arm of the Buhari administration.
Amnesty International, Human Right and ICC have all condemned all this frequent human rights violations, which include extrajudicial killings, torture, arbitrary arrests, and extortion-related abuses. From change to chains, I guess Nigerians got what they deserved. We Biafrans have vowed to keep fighting for our freedom, Buhari can't win this war. Yes, he has the Nigeria Army and the terrorists called Fulani-Herdsmen at his disposal but we won't relent because we know that at the end, Biafrans must win!
