Killings Of Unarmed Biafrans

Killings Of Unarmed Biafrans
By Okonkwo Isaac Somto
For Family Writers

Of all my experiences in Nigeria, the most disturbing was the alarming rate at which Biafrans were being massacred. It seemed as if no day went by without at least one dead body of a Biafran discovered, either in bushes, mass graves, murdered in their houses, buried alive, burnt to ashes, shot by the Nigeria armed forces, Raped and killed by the Hausa-Fulani herdsmen, kidnapped and tortured by Islamic terrorists. These killings are no longer carried out at night by even in broad daylight, so that one of the first scenes to greet on the streets is the dead bodies of Biafrans. But how long do we continue to mourn our dead? We cried and wept painfully during the 1967 Nigeria-Biafra civil war. Biafrans today are still suffering from the effects of that civil war. Some are mentally disturbed by the events that took place that day. Some can't even sleep at night because the echo of Biafrans who were massacred in their millions by the Nigeria armed forces, still cry to them in their dreams. After the genocidal acts committed by Nigeria against the Biafran people, I for once thought that was the end of the unjust killing of Biafrans but no I was totally wrong.

I didn't know that been successful, hard-working, smart, great, courageous, kind, loving and tender is a crime in Nigeria. They kill us because of jealousy and hatred. They kill us because we are better than them. They kill us because they can't be like us. They kill us because they want what we have. They kill us because of greed. They kill us because they can't stand our progress. They kill us because of envy. They kill us because we ask for equality. They kill us because we ask to be treated fairly. They kill us because we refuse to be treated as slaves. They kill us because we chose to be different. They kill us because we ask for freedom. They kill us because we ask to live in Biafra. Yes they can kill our body but they can't kill our spirit. Biafra will always live and breathe in us. We don't care if United Nations continue to turn a blind eye, we don't care if European Union don't want to get involved, we don't care if Britain continue to support Nigeria in the bid to keep us caged, we don't care if Africa Union decides to side with president Buhari in his plot to destroy Biafrans, we don't care if world leaders refuse to speak against the evil acts been carried out against us but we do care about justice, peace, truth, equality, self-determination, love, rule of law, human lives, freedom. We care about Biafra! We want to go home! Where is the crime in that?

It has been said that for evil men to accomplish their purpose it is only necessary that good men should do nothing. Let those who stand for what's right and just, say NO to killing of Biafrans in Nigeria. Say NO to modern day slavery. Say NO to violence. Say NO to tyranny. Say NO to the illegal detention of Nnamdi Kanu and the plot to assassinate him. Say NO to oppression. Say NO to injustice. Say NO to the constant killing of innocent Biafrans. Say NO to discrimination and say NO to forceful Islamization.

“ The world is a dangerous place to live, not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about it."- Albert Einstein
