Lawyer Petitions Obama Asking Buhari to Respect Court Orders
By Senator Iroegbu in Abuja
A constitutional lawyer and founder of Change.org, Ms Carol Ajie has petitioned President Barrack Obama of the United States, the National Judicial Council (NJC) amongst others, over President Muhammadu Buhari’s “disobedience of court orders.”
Ajie in the petition, which has garnered almost 200 signatories since its launch on New Year's eve, said that Buhari by his statements during the Presidential Media Chat at the State House in Abuja, “is behind the flagrant disobedience of court orders.”
The President had during the media chat admitted that the former National Security Adviser (NSA), Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd) and the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mr. Nnamdi Kanu were being held against court orders because they could run away.
However, Ajie said that this runs contrary to the law and the principle of separation of powers as enshrined in the constitution.
The human rights lawyer expressed concern that the President if unchecked might drag the country towards dictatorship.
“Buhari took the oath of allegiance to protect the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the President’s oath of office to discharge his duties faithfully, in accordance with the Constitution and the laws of Nigeria.
“Within President Buhari’s first year in office, too soon after he took the revered oaths, he and state agents acting under his supervision and at his maiden media chat on Wednesday 30th December, made puerile attempts to justify constitutional breaches.
“But under the Immigration Act, the President or the Minister may deport anyone who travels without a valid travel document or detain for a period not exceeding seven days. In holding Kanu beyond the required period, they have infracted on the Immigration Act, the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 and subsisting court orders."
“We call on President Buhari to resign from office or face impeachment proceedings. Alternatively, to avoid another Burundi, We call on him to comply with the orders of courts,” said the lawyer in her petition.

Buhari's action is not only an affront to the rule of law, the federal constitution, the Nigerian bar association but also a disgrace to the black community. If the world allows this Buhari to continue like this, another Hitler will prop up ugly head in him
ReplyDeleteEveryone is shouting rule of law for big thieves ,but non is crying out for the rule of law for the common man . They wants the big looters to be granted bail after 2 days in detention so that they will dump their case in court and have the complete freedom to enjoy their loots in comfort., but for commoner he will languish in prison for up to six years awaiting trial for an offence that carry a 3 months sentence. Poverty is crime in Nigeria.
ReplyDeleteThat's why you remain an ignorant and stupid idiot. Do you know that by what your Buhari said, it is very implicating for all Nigerians especially with the issuance of visas to different countries. Watch out many people might be having problems at Embassies of different countries from now on.
DeleteSambo Dasuki is a human being and he is not worse than the likes of Umaru Dikko's billionaire in a "Crate". He is not worse than Thiefnubu Ahmed, Fashola, Rotimi even IBB to mention but a few. Let the man enjoy a little bit of his bail and prepare for his trial. Afterall all of you are Yorobbers and Fulani/Hausa looters.
Then for Nnamdi Kanu, I ask you, did he take your money or has killed you or killed for you. Nnamdi is doing a great job by procuring job for the qualified graduates in areas of journalism and broadcasting. Please answer those questions. However Rule of law must be obeyed starting with your President.
Suleiman it is equally wrong and criminal to allow a commoner to languish in jail awaiting trial. All these are lawlessness and must stop. Let d govt use appeal courts if not happy wt judgements. Buhari cannot be executive and judiciary. Very soon law enforcement agents will start detaining common man wt frivilous charges across d country. People can even detain their enemies wtout trial if we allow this type of governance

DeleteBuhari should allow justice to take its course, i don't see the reason why we should be practicing democracy and dictatorship at the same time.
ReplyDeleteHe must be impeach immediately for non-compliance to the rule of law and to be find for breaching Kanu freedom. he must pay 100 million naira to leader of Biafra
ReplyDeleteAt least people have come out without fear or favour to condemn the barbaric actions and statements of this self-rigged-in President, Muhammadu Buhari. His purported certificate of class 4 bears the name Muhammed while he claims his name is Muhammadu. The best action for his atrocities is IMPEACHMENT and face off at the International Criminal Court. Enough should be enough of all this madness in the Nigerian government of Applied Purported Concussion, called (APC). LIARS AND DECEIVERS!
ReplyDeleteI think I most say a big shame to world power an the United nation an I will say Buhari has power over them if nt how can they be watch an a common illiterate like Buhari dis obeying court oder an they can nt do anything to him or tell him u are running ur people with hatred an he most be stope that country will be fucked
ReplyDeleteBuhari, is a criminal and also a wicked person. America don't want to talk on this issue because of their selfish interest in Nigeria including the stupid Britain against all these rubbishes that Buhari is doing to us the Biafrans God will punish all of them
ReplyDeleteWhether Buhari likes it or not Biafra has come to stay.. His era of dictatorship won't last. he shud be concerned abt his health rather than open up his grossly ear-itching intonation to say that Nnamdi does nt deserve to be granted bail.
ReplyDeleteMy people, it is obvious that God has left the world for the evils to rule, if not so how can people like this Buhari live to continue killing and punishing innocent children of God. I believed those called world power love and drinks blood? Otherwise they could have stopped Buhari from committing those atrocities. On the media chat he has said that he ignored the court to release Nnamdi Kanu and Sambo Dasuki because they will sun away. Maybe be Dasuki will run away because Buhari has accused him of $2.1 Billion loot, but Buhari what has Nnamdi kanu looted from Nigeria Government? Nnamdi Kanu was only asking for the freedom of his people and has not taken any so called national cake from the zoon. I do not blame you much but the so called leaders from the Biafra lands, who do not want to talk because they are seeking favor from your Government. I know one day all of you will reap what you have sowed. Let the innocent man alone if have any shame on you face. No wonder he said that Nigeria is a zoo, a lawless Country. It is said that the person who respect the law is the best Lawyer. But know the president has violated the law, what can the ordinary Nigerians do with the law? Maybe it is made only for ordinary Nigerians, those who do not have money or who to speak to them. Shame to our so called law makers.
ReplyDeleteGood job ms carol Ajie for your concern God bless you 2016 in Jesus name amen.
